“Swimming: thank you for allowing me to dream, you taught me to fight, to try, perseverance, sacrifice, discipline and many more,” she said.

“I gave you part of my life and I don’t change it for anything in the world because I lived the best experiences of my life, you gave me thousands of joys, friends from other countries that I will always carry them in my heart, unique opportunities. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you soon.”

It was reported on August 5 that she had been asked to leave the Olympic Village, after allegations of creating an “inappropriate atmosphere” around the team had surfaced.

The President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee spoke out while on a Paraguayan radio show that the decision seemingly came after one of her trips to Disneyland Paris.

Additionally, Paraguayan digital newspaper Hoy reported that the swimmer had spoken out on being reluctant to represent Paraguay on a live stream before the Games.

She, instead, expressed her desire to represent the United States.

Despite reports stating she had been asked to leave, Alonso’s social post indicates that although she indeed retired and left the Games, she had chosen to do so out of her own free will.

“I made the decision to stop and I am happy that my last race will be at the Olympics,” as per Daily Mail.

“I am going to go to study in the United States, I am going to continue my career in Political Science and, why not, be Sports Minister one day,” she added.

“I will always have a fondness for swimming and I may attend a competition, but it is not what I want in life,” she continued.

“What I want is to work for a company, I already have my life plan and hopefully it can happen.”

She has since announced the launch of her private account on GetYourHoe. com site, where she says she will be selling exclusive content for “adults”.

“Your favourite ex-swimmer,” she wrote in her page’s bio.

“Promise you won’t regret this.”
